Bear Spirit Lodge Montana Bed & Breakfast getting ready for Amish Auction
The Amish community near Bear Spirit Lodge B&B has been steadily growing since 1999, the year after I moved to Montana. Over 33 families are in the community in the Mission Valley and are wonderful carpenters and neighbors. The families have moved here from Amish communities from all over the country including Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, New York and western Montana. Their heritage is quite interesting with interesting stories, incredible skills and artistry. Over the last 10 years, several of the young men and women have gotten married and have beautiful, precious babies and fresh-faced children who are so sweet.
I believe it is important to support the local businesses and craftsmen from Mission Valley, so I hire them to do remodeling and maintenance work here. Bear Spirit Lodge has some additions built by Amish craftsmen, including the Amish/Finnish sauna house, the barn-style garage, the cedar deck and some furniture inside the B&B. The bed in the Santa Fe room was made by an Amish craftsman who hand-peeled the lodge pole pines and made the fabulous canopy bed.
The annual auction which supports their school and local craftsmen will start next Saturday, July 10th, at 9:30 a.m. The auction will be held at the local Amish Christian school on the corner of Allison Road & Foothills Road. There will be a great variety of products including crafts, gazebos, furniture, log cabins, timber frame post and beam buildings. The highlight each year is the quilt auction which starts at 11 a.m. and includes absolutely gorgeous hand-made quilts from Amish communities throughout the country.
Bear Spirit Lodge B&B will have a separate booth space to sell jewelry and crafts made by indigenous peoples from throughout the world. Please let me know if you would like to stay at the B&B to attend the auction, and I will give you a special discount for the weekend.
